Labelling

The drinks industry is committed to providing consumers with meaningful, relevant information that helps them make responsible decisions. By and large, Ireland takes its lead on alcohol labelling from EU legislation. Currently, the only alcohol specific such law is EU Directive 87/250/EEC on the mandatory inclusion of ABV. Visit the Food Safety Authority of Ireland website below which details this directive and the accompanying piece of Irish legislation (Statutory Instrument) which translates this EU legislation into Irish law.

Alcohol companies in Ireland often voluntarily provide information to consumers, such as standard units and pregnancy warnings.

The Government has announced its intentions to introduce a range of mandatory labelling requirements in Ireland.
